Review of Health and Medical Research announced (11 May 2011)

To coincide with the 2011 federal budget announcement, the Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, The Honourable Mark Butler MP, released a video announcing a strategic review of Australian medical research funding will be conducted in a bid to improve the system.

In his video, Mr Butler praises the medical research community for their passion and diligence, and thanks the campaign for raising the profile of medical research in the community.

"As you know, at the budget we announced a review into health and medical research. At the time I undertook to consult with the sector about the Terms of Reference for the review, as well as the types of people who might make a contribution on the panel. To manage this we are liaising with peak organisations in the research sector.

I encourage you to have a look at the Draft Terms of Reference and provide any comments you have to Discoveries Need Dollars so they are able to incorporate them into their feedback to me.

I look forward to your input.
Mark Butler"

Discoveries Need Dollars collated and submitted feedback from its supporters on the Draft Terms of Reference in July 2011. We encourage our supporters to now participate in the review's consultation process.
